We don’t call Jump with Jill the world’s only rock & roll nutrition show just to inflate Jill’s ego, we actually tour the show outside the U.S.! So welcome to Jump with Jill’s first Canadian tour brought to you by the Alberta Canola Producers.

Jump with Jill rocked the 29th annual Aggie Days in the city of Calgary at the world famous Calgary Stampede. Aggie Days is a free event designed to teach Alberta kids and families about where food comes from. They can pet pigs, milk a cow, and crush their own canola seeds to extract oil. Alberta is a huge farming province, so the vendors want to impress the importance of agriculture to the next generation.

Canola Oil is one of Canada’s major agricultural commodities – canola oil actually stands for Canada’s Oil! Its known for it’s nutritional value, versatility, and functionality. It’s low in saturated fat, the lowest of all commonly used kitchen oils. It has a high smoke point, making it great for sautéing and stir-frying. With a mild flavor, it won’t overshadow your other ingredients. As a result, canola oil is third most commonly consumed vegetable oil in the world.

Here at Aggie Days, the Alberta Canola Producers are launching the newest book in their children’s book series about their hero, Chase Duffy: Cut! To the Chase…- a re-write of Aesop’s fable, The Tortoise and the Hare. Aggie Days attendees not only got a copy of the book but got to meet the author Dawn Ius and illustrator James Grasdal.

I’ve learned a lot about agriculture while spending time at Aggie Days. The baby version of an animal is always the cutest; after watching the cowboys ride bucking bulls and horses, I’m not as outrageous with my career choice as I once thought; and if you share the stage with a dog herding a flock of ducks, bring a mop.

As special thank you to the Alberta Canola Producers for having us. We enjoyed making Canola Oil rock.
